URGENT: Get WRAPPED Blanket Drive for Children with Cancer in Hospitals

Good Morning Little Fighter Friends,

Today we come to you with a very important request – a donation of a soft, new, single-bed blanket towards our Annual Get WRAPPED Blanket Drive for Children with Cancer in Hospitals.

It is month-end, and the perfect time to add just one blanket to your monthly shopping basket that will make a WORLD of difference to someone this winter.

Please note that Makro, POCO, Clicks, Sheet Street and JET all have specials on Blankets on at the moment, ranging in price from around R50 to R300.

There is a dire shortage of and need for decent bedding at most state hospitals.

No child should have to go without decent bedding and a nice soft warm blanket to keep them warm in the cold winter months, let alone a child Fighting Cancer with all their might. Children undergoing chemotherapy treatment get very cold during the treatment and it is terrible to see them shivering and shaking from cold.

The Little Fighters Cancer Trust Get Wrapped Project entails asking for donations of new single bed blankets, preferably soft, as the children have very sensitive skins due to some of the treatment regimens.

Only new blankets are accepted due to the compromised immune systems of Children with Cancer.

Last year we distributed over 2 000 NEW, lovely blankets to Children with Cancer in 14 Pediatric Oncology Hospital Wards and we were able to include the bedside care-giver in most hospitals. At some of the hospitals, we were able to include the entire Pediatric Oncology Patient List, and at others we were able to include the day-clinic patients on the day of delivery. Most of our LFCT Registered Families also received warm blankets. In addition, we were also able to provide warm blankets to wards in Places of Safety that also house Children with Cancer.

This was ALL because of YOUR incredible Support!

We ask for donations of NEW, soft, fluffy single bed size blankets. We cannot accept second-hand goods as Children with Cancer have very low immune systems, which makes them prone to infection.

We would like all blanket donations to be handed in by FRIDAY, MAY 22ND please.

We will update regional and local drop-off points as they confirm. Please use whatsapp or call to make contact with the drop-off person closest to you. ALL these ladies and gents work day-jobs, so might not be able to reply to you right away, please take this into consideration. HOWEVER, they are committed to this drive, so will get back to you as soon as they are able to!

About LFCT

CHILDHOOD CANCER and CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS Little Fighters Cancer Trust is a non-profit Childhood Cancer support organisation that offers support and aid to Children with Cancer and their families. When a child is diagnosed with cancer it affects the whole family. One of the parents, usually the mother, must give up their job to care for the child and this creates financial problems for the family. In South Africa especially the majority of these families are not well-to-do; many of them are rural. A diagnosis of cancer can wipe out any family’s finances, let alone a poor family. The costs of special medications, special diets, hospital stays, transport to and from the hospital or clinic and accommodation and food costs for the mother who spends most of the time at her child’s bedside are astronomical. These are the people and problems that fall through the cracks, and these are the people that Little Fighters Cancer Trust has pledged to help in any way possible. LFCT takes a holistic approach to assisting the Children with Cancer and their Families, with the main aim to be the preservation of individual dignity and pride. Little Fighters Cancer Trust also focuses on promotion and advocacy of National Childhood Cancer Awareness in an effort to increase awareness of Early Warning Signs of Childhood Cancer. This would result in earlier diagnosis, giving the Child with Cancer more of a chance at Treatment and Survival. See "About" for more Background info
