Hearts of Gold

heart13

Little Fighters Cancer Trust is a small team of 3, and could never survive or do what we do without all our Volunteers and Ambassadors, who tirelessly give of their time, effort and very often money as well, to make the lives of our Little Fighters and their families just a bit better.

Today, however, there is another group of people who the Little Fighters Cancer Trust would like to thank from the bottom of our hearts. These are not employees, ambassadors or even volunteers, but souls with hearts of gold that have gone above and beyond to help.

We here at Little Fighters Cancer Trust believe that these souls deserve a special mention, and will therefore be awarding the Little Fighters Cancer Trust Heart of Gold Medal to various individuals every now and again as a sign of our deep appreciation.

Today we kick-off these awards by awarding the following Heart of Gold Medals:

Kargo MedalOur first Heart of Gold Medal goes to Kargo National (Pty) Ltd, who have been staunch supporters of Little Fighters Cancer Trust for a few years now. Kargo National has never ever once turned away a request to assist with collections and deliveries, and they do so with a smile, every time!

Without Kargo we would not be able to send the blankets, food, clothing, Christmas presents/hampers and everything else we distribute to our Little Fighters and their Families throughout South Africa.  All of these collections and deliveries are FULLY sponsored, which leaves more funds to sort out our Little Fighters and their Families!!! Kargo National we salute you!

salute2BMelanie Redelinghuys MedalOur next Heart of Gold Medal goes to Melanie Redelinghuys, an LFCT supporter from Belville, Cape Town heard our plea for warm, soft winter blankets for our Little Fighters who get so cold during their treatments, and rallied her personal network to collect blankets for our Get WRAPPED Project.

Melanie did not just ask her local friends for donations, but contacted friends and family around the World. Her connections heard her call and financial donations flowed in from as far as Dubai and Europe. She inspired her colleagues to help and she drove around like crazy collecting donations and buying blankets with the money donated. Where there is a will there is a way, and Melanie collected an astounding 110 blankets for our Little Fighters. Melanie, we salute you!

Carroll Virginia Walker MedalOur next Heart of Gold Medal goes to Carroll Virginia Walker who has also long been an avid Little Fighters Cancer Trust supporter.

Carroll also heard our pleas and, along with her Family; Candy-Leigh, Karin and Robert, donated a whopping 100 snuggly warm blankets for our Little Fighters, in Memory of their Mr. Sunshine, Logan Cole Simpson.

Thank you so much to each one of you for always being there with your support and generosity. Carroll & Family, we Salute you!

salute2BTo all of the above Little Fighters Cancer Trust Heart of Gold Medal Awardees we would like to extend our Heartfelt Thanks and our admiration. Thank you all for being the compassionate, driven people that you all are.

About LFCT

This is a blog about CHILDHOOD CANCER and CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS Little Fighters Cancer Trust is a non-profit organisation that offers support and aid to Children with Cancer and their families. When a child is diagnosed with cancer it affects the whole family. One of the parents, usually the mother, must give up their job to care for the child and this creates financial problems for the family. In South Africa especially the majority of these families are not well-to-do; many of them are rural. A diagnosis of cancer can wipe out any family’s finances, let alone a poor family. The costs of special medications, special diets, hospital stays, transport to and from the hospital or clinic and accommodation and food costs for the mother who spends most of the time at her child’s bedside are astronomical. These are the people and problems that fall through the cracks, and these are the people that Little Fighters Cancer Trust has pledged to help in any way possible. LFCT takes a holistic approach to assisting the Children with Cancer and their Families, with the main aim to be the preservation of individual dignity and pride. Little Fighters Cancer Trust also focuses on promotion and advocacy of National Childhood Cancer Awareness in an effort to increase awareness of Early Warning Signs of Childhood Cancer. This would result in earlier diagnosis, giving the Child with Cancer more of a chance at Treatment and Survival. See "About" for more Background info
