Seven7 DRIVE for Kids with Cancer: Update

With only 5 days to go, the excitement is mounting at both Little Fighters Cancer Trust and SEVEN 7 Drive for Kids with Cancer as our 3 intrepid travellers, Danie Botha, G.G van Rooyen and Jan van Deventer enter the final stages of the preparations to begin their Seven countries in 7 days trip to raise funds for Children with Cancer who are terminal and are not covered by Medical Aid. They will also visit a child with Cancer in hospital in each of the countries.

Their full SEVEN DAY itinerary can be found HERE

The Kia Sorento they will be driving, kindly sponsored by KIA SOUTH AFRICA, has been outfitted with all the extras they need to make this journey:

  • A new set of Bridgestone Dueler All-terrain tyres;
  • Lightforce Venom 50W HID lights;
  • The entry-level Kia’s steering wheel with controls for the (Bluetooth) sound system/telephone and on-board computer (thanks to SAC for their contribution);
  • Roof-rack courtesy of Weca Off-road Centre in Centurion;

The KIA is currently at Graffiti in Kyalami having the final touches added, after which it should look something like THIS

On the 18th June, the Team joined Katrin from Little Fighters Cancer Trust, during one of her regular visits to hand out some gifts, on a visit to the Paediatric Oncology Ward at Steve Biko Hospital, where they will also be ending off their SEVEN 7 Drive.

Little Fighters Cancer Trust would like to once again thank Danie, G.G and Jan, as well as all of their sponsors, for everything they are doing to raise Funds and Awareness for Childhood Cancer, and wishes the Team Safe Travels.

ALL operational costs for this epic adventure are sponsored in full, ensuring that 100% of funds donated go directly to the Little Fighters Cancer Trust.

Leisure Wheels magazine will be doing an 8-page cover story of the adventure and we will be updating you all on a daily basis where possible via satellite link-ups while on the move ~ here on the blog, on a dedicated Facebook Page, and on Twitter.

A video will be made of the Intrepid Trio’s Adventure, and there will possibly also be ‘live’ internet tracking via satellite system.

About LFCT

CHILDHOOD CANCER and CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS Little Fighters Cancer Trust is a non-profit Childhood Cancer support organisation that offers support and aid to Children with Cancer and their families. When a child is diagnosed with cancer it affects the whole family. One of the parents, usually the mother, must give up their job to care for the child and this creates financial problems for the family. In South Africa especially the majority of these families are not well-to-do; many of them are rural. A diagnosis of cancer can wipe out any family’s finances, let alone a poor family. The costs of special medications, special diets, hospital stays, transport to and from the hospital or clinic and accommodation and food costs for the mother who spends most of the time at her child’s bedside are astronomical. These are the people and problems that fall through the cracks, and these are the people that Little Fighters Cancer Trust has pledged to help in any way possible. LFCT takes a holistic approach to assisting the Children with Cancer and their Families, with the main aim to be the preservation of individual dignity and pride. Little Fighters Cancer Trust also focuses on promotion and advocacy of National Childhood Cancer Awareness in an effort to increase awareness of Early Warning Signs of Childhood Cancer. This would result in earlier diagnosis, giving the Child with Cancer more of a chance at Treatment and Survival. See "About" for more Background info
