Urgent Help Needed for Faseegah

Faseegah in High Care

Faseegah in High Care on Eid

We urgently need help for Faseegah, one of our Little Fighters in the Western Cape – either monetary or product and/or labour.

Faseegah is one of our Little Fighters who unfortunately relapsed about 2 years ago and has put up a very brave fight since. Recently she had more tests done and the results were not good.

The doctors discovered that Faseegah has a hole in her stomach for which she required immediate medication, but since she no longer has any viable veins for a drip because of all the chemotherapy treatments she has undergone, they had to take her into theatre and insert a Hickman Line so that they could administer the required medication.

It is thought that the hole in Faseegah’s stomach could be as a result of the 30+ tablets she has to drink daily as part of her cancer treatment.

Faseegah is still in High Care since her surgery and will have to remain in hospital for another month or more. She is in constant pain as she has gained a lot of weight due to steroid treatments, but is constantly hungry as she cannot eat anything at the moment due to the hole in her stomach. She is being fed intravenously but is really having a hard time of it.

While our supporters have been great and have helped with transport for her family to visit with her in hospital on Eid ~ Heartfelt thanks to Zeriena Jacobs from Voice of the Cape Radio for organising that ~ we urgently need help to make Faseegah’s home safe for her return.

It is winter in Cape Town, and  it is cold and wet, and the last thing a Little Fighter needs is to return to a home where her mother has to sweep the rainwater out of the house and all the furniture and bedding and virtually everything else is damp. The roof is leaking and rainwater is coming into their home and flooding it, seeping into the furniture and other items and creating a very cold, damp and unhealthy home – one to which a Little Fighter CANNOT return for fear of infection.

What We Need

  1. We need gutters to be put up around their accommodation
  2. We need ground cover
  3. We need trenches to be dug so that any excess water can flow away from the house

How YOU can Help

  1. Donate or ask your company to donate guttering
  2. Donate or ask your company to donate ground cover
  3. Donate your time to put up guttering and/or dig trenches
  4. Donate financially so that we can purchase the guttering/waterproofing measures

Please contact Mandie on 073 729 6155 or mandie@littlefighters.org.za if you can help

About LFCT

This is a blog about CHILDHOOD CANCER and CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS Little Fighters Cancer Trust is a non-profit organisation that offers support and aid to Children with Cancer and their families. When a child is diagnosed with cancer it affects the whole family. One of the parents, usually the mother, must give up their job to care for the child and this creates financial problems for the family. In South Africa especially the majority of these families are not well-to-do; many of them are rural. A diagnosis of cancer can wipe out any family’s finances, let alone a poor family. The costs of special medications, special diets, hospital stays, transport to and from the hospital or clinic and accommodation and food costs for the mother who spends most of the time at her child’s bedside are astronomical. These are the people and problems that fall through the cracks, and these are the people that Little Fighters Cancer Trust has pledged to help in any way possible. LFCT takes a holistic approach to assisting the Children with Cancer and their Families, with the main aim to be the preservation of individual dignity and pride. Little Fighters Cancer Trust also focuses on promotion and advocacy of National Childhood Cancer Awareness in an effort to increase awareness of Early Warning Signs of Childhood Cancer. This would result in earlier diagnosis, giving the Child with Cancer more of a chance at Treatment and Survival. See "About" for more Background info
