Smash Hit SA Musician to Go Into Boxing Ring for Children Fighting Cancer

Garth Taylor Fight Fir Low Res HIGH RES AVAILABLE AT REQUEST

On Thursday, June 30th 2016, Garth Taylor, a constant hit-churner in the South African music industry over the past 17 years, will be churning out hits of a different kind.

While most know Garth Taylor for his chart-topping hits, few know that he is an avid fitness fanatic and that kickboxing is his second passion.  In 2014, he won the South African Amateur Kickboxing Champion title in the Light Contact category.

#YouPledgeIFIGHT is an effort by Garth Taylor, to raise funds for the Little Fighters Cancer Trust.

“After having my sister, Joanne, taken away from me by cancer, I have even more of a soft spot toward people who are fighting cancer. Having watched what she went through as an adult fighting this disease, I can only imagine how much worse it is for children who are suffering from cancer, to fight this battle. So, I figured, how bad can it be? Me, stepping into the ring and getting punched around for kids who are fighting for their lives every single day. I might as well see what I can do, if not through my singing, then by getting into the ring and doing something more exciting, so that people and companies pledge money and hopefully we can raise enough funds to help these little kids. I see cancer as a big bully hurting these children, and that is what I will be fighting for.” – Garth Taylor

LFCT receives NO Government funding, nor any International Grants, and is 100% dependent on public funding, and corporate sponsorships. This one of a kind Childhood Cancer Charity has a no turn-away policy, and currently services over 100 individual families Nationally.  When hospital projects are implemented entire Paediatric Oncology Patient Lists are included, and this brings the figure up to 2000 Children with Cancer that are reached with every project.

“This selfless and rather crazy effort by Garth, who has been a great supporter of the work which we do for children with cancer, could not have been timelier. We are absolutely overwhelmed by requests for assistance to children and families, from oncologists, social workers, teachers and parents at the moment. Many childhood cancer families are ripped apart completely, emotionally as well as financially, and in many cases, just food on the table, has become a luxury. We urge the public and corporates to donate. If Garth’s target is reached, or exceeded, it will make a huge difference in our service delivery.” – Mandie Erasmus, Little Fighters Cancer Trust

The aim of #YouPledgeIFIGHT is to encourage public and corporate donors to pledge and donate to get Garth into the ring at Scarlet Ribbon in Greenstone Park during the White Collar Boxing 14 Event, with the target amount being R100 000

About LFCT

This is a blog about CHILDHOOD CANCER and CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS Little Fighters Cancer Trust is a non-profit organisation that offers support and aid to Children with Cancer and their families. When a child is diagnosed with cancer it affects the whole family. One of the parents, usually the mother, must give up their job to care for the child and this creates financial problems for the family. In South Africa especially the majority of these families are not well-to-do; many of them are rural. A diagnosis of cancer can wipe out any family’s finances, let alone a poor family. The costs of special medications, special diets, hospital stays, transport to and from the hospital or clinic and accommodation and food costs for the mother who spends most of the time at her child’s bedside are astronomical. These are the people and problems that fall through the cracks, and these are the people that Little Fighters Cancer Trust has pledged to help in any way possible. LFCT takes a holistic approach to assisting the Children with Cancer and their Families, with the main aim to be the preservation of individual dignity and pride. Little Fighters Cancer Trust also focuses on promotion and advocacy of National Childhood Cancer Awareness in an effort to increase awareness of Early Warning Signs of Childhood Cancer. This would result in earlier diagnosis, giving the Child with Cancer more of a chance at Treatment and Survival. See "About" for more Background info
