✨Wishlist Wednesday✨ Xmas Food Parcels for our Child Cancer Families

Eating well is vitally important for our Little Fighters, as Children with Cancer need all of their strength to build up their immune system which is compromised due to the cancer and as a result of the treatments such as Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy.

In excess of 50% of the individual Childhood Cancer-affected families that are supported by the Little Fighters Cancer Trust have lost one income due to the child’s diagnosis.

With one parent in the hospital for months, sometimes years on end, the sole breadwinner struggles to make ends meet at home. The Little Fighters Cancer Trust ensures that these families have food in the home while the Child with Cancer is in and out of hospital.

This is never more needed or appreciated than over the Festive Season – we need to collect foodstuffs according to list below to feed 100 Families this Christmas as well as financial donations to purchase fresh produce required,  such as meat, fruit, vegetables and dairy products.

All Donations need to be ready for collection by 12 December please!

Financial Contributions toward this project are highly appreciated to enable us to make these purchases.

Financial Contributions for this project need to be referenced with FOOD please.

Please reference your name if payments are made directly into the Trust bank account, we would love to thank you for your donations. Cash donations can be given as well, for which you will receive a receipt.

Our monthly Food Deliveries also often include other pertinent and vital products that the Families cannot afford, such as Adult Diapers which many of our Little Fighters need to wear either during their treatments or permanently, as some cancers affect their control over normal bodily functions and these diapers are really expensive.

If we have additional clothing we may also send this with if we know that the need is there. Our aim is to look after as many needs as we can to make our Little Fighters as comfortable as possible while they are going through the fight of their lives.

Please take into consideration that these Little Fighters can only stand a fighting chance at victory with YOU in their corner.

Physical donations of goods can be made in various provinces, not only in the Western Cape, so please contact us regarding any physical donations you would like to make so that we can make arrangements with our Representatives in your area.

Financial donations can be made into the Trust account; please mark your donation with your details and “Food Project” if you would like it to be used specifically for this project, otherwise we will use it where most necessary at the time.

About LFCT

This is a blog about CHILDHOOD CANCER and CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS Little Fighters Cancer Trust is a non-profit organisation that offers support and aid to Children with Cancer and their families. When a child is diagnosed with cancer it affects the whole family. One of the parents, usually the mother, must give up their job to care for the child and this creates financial problems for the family. In South Africa especially the majority of these families are not well-to-do; many of them are rural. A diagnosis of cancer can wipe out any family’s finances, let alone a poor family. The costs of special medications, special diets, hospital stays, transport to and from the hospital or clinic and accommodation and food costs for the mother who spends most of the time at her child’s bedside are astronomical. These are the people and problems that fall through the cracks, and these are the people that Little Fighters Cancer Trust has pledged to help in any way possible. LFCT takes a holistic approach to assisting the Children with Cancer and their Families, with the main aim to be the preservation of individual dignity and pride. Little Fighters Cancer Trust also focuses on promotion and advocacy of National Childhood Cancer Awareness in an effort to increase awareness of Early Warning Signs of Childhood Cancer. This would result in earlier diagnosis, giving the Child with Cancer more of a chance at Treatment and Survival. See "About" for more Background info
