Last year, 3 intrepid travelers, Danie Botha, G.G van Rooyen and Jan van Deventer, traversed Seven countries in 7 days in a Kia Sorento kindly sponsored by KIA SOUTH AFRICA, to raise funds for Children with Cancer who are terminal and are not covered by Medical Aid.
You can see some wonderful photos and read more about last year’s trip HERE, and we will be updating as much as possible again this year so keep up with these wonderful guys right here or on Facebook.
The team of journalists under the leadership of Danie Botha, is once again heading out to traverse 7000 kilometres, across seven African countries in seven days to spread some cheer to children fighting cancer and to raise funds for the Little Fighters Cancer Trust.
This morning’s post is going to be one that I hate doing but need to because these guys have really given their all to fundraise for Children with Cancer yet there has been NOT EVEN ONE donation on Back-a-Buddy so far and SMS Donations are also minimal.
It is no picnic to drive 6 200 km in seven days, covering seven countries, what with all the difficult roads, putting up with going through all the border-posts, sitting in traffic jams etc. It is tiring, a strain on the eyes and back, and difficult to be away from one’s Loved Ones for so long.
For us it is more difficult to feel the disappointment and disbelief that Danie Botha, G.G van Rooyen and Jan van Deventer must be feeling at the fact that while they have endured all this, as well as stopping off to visit, give presents to and give some love to a terminal childhood cancer patient in each of the towns they visited, the whole aim of this adventure – to raise funds for Children with Cancer – has just not happened!
Today the team drove from INHAMBANE (MOZAMBIQUE) to MANZINI (SWAZILAND) – approx. 680km
Departed 5am from Inhambane and Goba border crossing to Swaziland, continue to Manzini to arrive approx 2pm. Visited Manzini clinic and surrounds. Depart approx. 4pm for Mkhaya Nature Reserve. Arrive at camp at approx. 6pm.
“In Swaziland! It was an easy 800km day, and tomorrow we head to Lesotho and Sani Pass. Today we had a quick detour to the Indian Ocean, Jan van Deventer clowned around some, and we spent several hours in Mozambique traffic jams.”
Our 3 intrepid travelers have been hitting the road hard over the past 2 days….
Yesterday they travelled from FRANCISTOWN (BOTSWANA) to CHIREDZI (ZIMBABWE) – approx. 577 km. Depart 6am and cross border to Zimbabwe. Drive to Chiredzi and the town’s clinic, to arrive approx. lunchtime. From there continue to Singita Pamushana Lodge, to arrive approx 4pm.
So, our 3 travelers did the 1800 km journey from Johannesburg to Namibia, arriving safely in Windhoek yesterday and paid a visit to the Windhoek Hospital to visit and deliver presents to the first Child with Cancer on their list.
Unfortunately we are not allowed to take photos in the hospitals, but here are some snaps of their journey…
Late yesterday afternoon the lads all packed their goodies, shaved their heads in preparation for the trip and cancer awareness, dressed nicely and then proceeded to jump around excitedly for the next few hours until it was time to leave.
With only 5 days to go, the excitement is mounting at both Little Fighters Cancer Trust and SEVEN 7 Drive for Kids with Cancer as our 3 intrepid travellers, Danie Botha, G.G van Rooyen and Jan van Deventer enter the final stages of the preparations to begin their Seven countries in 7 days trip to raise funds for Children with Cancer who are terminal and are not covered by Medical Aid. They will also visit a child with Cancer in hospital in each of the countries.
Their full SEVEN DAY itinerary can be found HERE
The Kia Sorento they will be driving, kindly sponsored by KIA SOUTH AFRICA, has been outfitted with all the extras they need to make this journey:

The Little Fighters Cancer Trust is thrilled to share our latest fundraising (ad)venture with you all today ~ the SEVEN7 Drive!
Sometime during the first week of July, 2015, very early in the morning, before even the birdies are awake, an “Africanised” Next-generation Kia Sorento 2.0 FWD, kindly sponsored by KIA SOUTH AFRICA, sporting Little Fighters Cancer Trust branding and carrying 3 intrepid adventurers will depart from an undisclosed venue in Gauteng, RSA on an epic 6 200km driving adventure through Southern Africa, covering seven countries (and seven hospitals) – in seven days!
Danie Botha, G.G van Rooyen and Jan van Deventer are embarking on this journey to raise funds for Children with Cancer, specifically for Children with Cancer who are terminal and are not covered by Medical Aid.
