Swim for Hope Fundraising ~ Almost There… Push! Push! Push! ;-)

sfh2016Good Day ALL! I feel like singing Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” song this morning because we have had some human angels do donations overnight and our Swim for Hope fundraising effort has climbed quite a bit.

Donating to this worthy cause is your way of helping us to help more Children with Cancer by honouring the COURAGEOUS efforts of the 17 swimmers that took on the rough, icy seas of the Cape of Storms in the EPIC  8km Cape Point Rounding last Friday!

In actual fact, I think that is exactly what I WILL do… sing along with me now…

It might seem crazy what I’m ’bout to say
Sunshine she’s here, you can take a break
I’m a hot air balloon that could go to space
With the air, like I don’t care baby by the way

Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth

Swim for Hope 2016 a Supreme Success!

sfh2016logoSo, I know that I said that I would post only on Monday, but truth be told, I am SO in awe of these brave swimmers that I HAD to just do a quick post today.

Unfortunately due to some logistic problems I did not manage to be on the sea (will definitely be on the sea next year), but even standing on the shore to welcome our swimmers home was extremely exciting!

Seeing these pumped, tired, shivering bodies step out of the water after braving the elements in freezing waters and massive swells after being thrown around like corks by the ocean was a sight to behold!

After seeing what these swimmers go through, I have nothing but respect for them and say Bravo! to each and every swimmer that took part in Swim for Hope 2016 – you are all AWESOME!!

Today is Swim for Hope 2016 Day!!

swimfor hope 2016Well, the day has arrived and while you are reading this post our intrepid Swim for Hope team is most probably already in the water battling the rough seas and freezing temperatures in their epic swim around Cape Point.

Swim For Hope around the Cape of Good Hope is an exclusive group swim attempt around Cape Point to raise funds for the Little Fighters Cancer Trust’s Bag of Hope project. This will be the 4th Swim for Hope event and the 3rd Swim for Hope Group Event.

Carina Bruwer~Pugliese from the SAMA award-winning group Sterling EQ, who is also a Veteran Marathon Swimmer and active LFCT Supporter and Advocate, initiated Swim For Hope with a solo rounding in 2013, and decided to turn it into an invitational in order to increase fundraising potential.

Since then there have been two group swims, with fourteen swimmers participating in each of the 2014 and 2015 Group Swims. See more about the previous swims HERE and HERE.

Tomorrow is SfH Day!!!

swimfor hope 2016Tomorrow is Swim for Hope Day! The crew and the swimmers will be up bright and early and ready to face a long day (which begins at about 4-30 am) and a fierce swim around Cape Point in freezing water that is between 12.5 and 16 degrees Celsius, which for those who don’t know, IS COLD, but in what we hope will be good sea conditions and not too windy.

I am extremely excited as I will be joining the team for the first time this year (no, not as a swimmer, but as an observer/helping hand/nogschlepper) so will be able to get a first-hand experience of the harsh sea conditions and the determination-in-action from our brave swimmers, which I will share with you in a post on Monday.

Several records have been broken during the previous swims around Cape Point and we hope that, conditions prevailing, there will be some new records set this year as well.

Swim for Hope is classified by the Cape Long Distance Association (CLDSA) as an “Expert Level swim” and is recommended for experienced open water swimmers only. CLDSA officiates over the swim.

Our Swim for Hope 2015 HEROES

Our Swim for Hope 2015 HEROES

After months of preparation and weeks of being on standby waiting for the perfect weather conditions, Swim for Hope 2015 eventually took place on Monday 13th April, and WHAT a swim it was! Above are the amazing Swim for Hope 2015 Swimmers who took part in Monday’s courageous  and dramatic 8km rounding of Cape Point in an absolutely freezing 12 degrees.

Carina Swim for Hope 2015

Carina Bruwer started Swim for Hope in aid of the Little Fighters Cancer Trust with a solo rounding of Cape Point in 2013, 6 years after having retired from open-water swimming. This incredibly determined and brave open-water swimmer, who holds many international open-water swimming records, some of which are under the auspices of Swim for Hope, completed 6 grueling kilometers of Monday’s Cape Point Swim in the excellent time of 1H45 before the cold took its toll on her and she was extracted from the water with severe hypothermia.

Swim for Hope ~ New Donation Platform

buttons2.php

Last week, we received the news that BackaBuddy has to be closed down for an estate audit as the site owner recently passed away. Allan was always very kind to us, and our sincere condolences have been relayed to his wife and children.

However, this left us in a bit of a pickle, as our fundraising platform was shut down literally ten days before our standby start date!

We are very happy to announce that we have organised a new fundraising platform for your donations! Better, secure and funds go DIRECTLY to the Little Fighters Cancer Trust! Even better is that the Swim for Hope fundraising platform is now hosted on the Swim for Hope website as well!

SWIM FOR HOPE 2015

Open water swimmers come together for yet another group attempt of the most breath-taking swim in the world, to raise funds for The Little Fighters Cancer Trust.

The spectacular and extreme 8km ocean swim stretches from Diaz Beach on the western side of Cape Point, to Buffels Bay on the Eastern side, and takes swimmers through the point where the two oceans (Atlantic and Indian) meet.

Swimmers will go on standby on 21 March 2015 and the swim will be called 24 hours prior to the first suitable day.

South African musician and veteran marathon swimmer Carina Bruwer completed a solo rounding of Cape Point in 2013, raising R17,500 as well as extensive media coverage and awareness for Little Fighters Cancer Trust and Childhood Cancer Awareness.

Carina decided to make the Swim for Hope an Annual Invitational Group Event.

In 2014, 15 incredible open water swimmers took part, and raised R116 800 for Little Fighters.

All moneys raised will go towards the Little Fighters Cancer Trust’s BAG OF HOPE Project.

A BAG OF HOPE provides essentials for both the Child with Cancer and his/her mother or bedside care-giver, with items such as toiletries, pyjamas, non-perishable food, educational toys, blankets and sanitary products, making a challenging and prolonged hospital stay just a bit more comfortable.

LFCT is operational in 14 main Paediatric Oncology Treatment Centres throughout South Africa, including the Western Cape, Gauteng, Kwazulu Natal, Eastern Cape and Free State.

PLEASE HONOUR OUR AMAZINGLY BRAVE SWIMMERS BY SUPPORTING SWIM FOR HOPE! Each donation is worth gold.
