Modern Day Romeo & Juliet has Happy Ending


Back in the late 1980s, young Joel Alsup, a 7-year-old from Chattanooga, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which would result in the amputation of his right arm.

In 1991, 10-year-old Lindsey Wilkerson from Crane, Mo. was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia at the same hospital.

The two frightened children overcame childhood cancer to become friends, best friends, then husband and wife.

Our families would actually sit in the waiting room and visit while she was in treatment and I was coming back for checkups,” Joel says.

I don’t think they even knew each other’s names then. We had no idea where it would end,” said Lindsey’s mother.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity Lighting Up a Little Fighter’s Life


LexismSadly, 12-year-old Lexi Brown is pretty used to hospital rooms by now.

The little cancer fighter, who herself has done an amazing job fundraising for other Children with Cancer, has been in and out of treatment since she was first diagnosed a year and a half ago, when doctors removed a tumour from the muscle in her thigh.

After undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, Lexi went into remission, but her cancer has unfortunately returned.

She was staying at Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA in late October when her cancer treatment weakened her heart. The pre-teen and her mom posted a sign in her hospital window asking for pizza.
