How Self-Hypnosis Relieves Pain & Depression in Cancer Patients

If you haven’t heard of Dr. David Spiegel, let us introduce him…

He’s the Associate Chair of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Director of the Center on Stress and Health, in addition to the Medical Director of the Center for Integrative Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine.

During his 40 years of clinical research, he’s specialized in psycho-oncology, stress and health, pain control, psychoneuroendocrinology, sleep and psychotherapy for cancer patients.

But another field that’s close to his heart is hypnosis – having conducted an extensive number of clinical studies, in addition to publishing many medical journals, articles and even book chapters on the topic.

One of his most notable clinical trials studied the effects of self-hypnosis coupled with support groups to relieve pain and mental distress in cancer patients.

Watch the video to see His Holiness ponder Dr. Spiegel’s groundbreaking research, and how “feelings lead to healing.”

In this extraordinary video, Dr. Spiegel and his team share their findings from this research with the Dalai Lama.

This may be hard for caregivers, who may feel more comfortable keeping a child at home to avoid exposure to germs. However, certain precautions can be taken, including hand-washing and covering your cough to keep children healthy during cancer treatment.

This 5 Tips for Staying Healthy While on Treatment for Children’s Cancer video is a great tool for caregivers to view and share with teachers, daycare providers, and coaches.
